MD – DEVON FLOODS
2012, will no doubt,be remembered as the year of the rain. Not for many years, it would seem, that so much rain has fallen on the county. The distress encountered by some people, with the resulting floods, has been dreadful. Our hearts and love must go out to them.
Many suggestions have been made, as to why the climate has changes. Is it due to global warming? Is there such a thing? Doubtful. Those who are aware of solar activity, whold know that our Sun, is going through a period of being hotter than normal. Tat in itself, will cause climate change on Earth.
With continuing climate change, regulated by the Sun, there will also be times of drought, which was forecast at the beginning of the year. We are now in a position, whereby an vast amount of water is simply draining through the natural drainage of rivers, to the sea. It would therefore seem reasonable, to try and conserve this supply of water, for times when it is not so plentiful.
Storage of water can also be an asset. Burrator, for example, is an attraction to local people and visitors, throughout the year. Additionally, the production of green energy can be provided, with the utility of Hydro electricity. It would seem however, that such developments, that would assist future generations, are not in train.
Flood prevention schems, and water conservaton, would create work and improve the lives of local people. It will be no doubt be mentioned that funding is not always available, but then, is it more important to improve the well being of the peole of Devon, and it’s infrastrctiur, then some other less deserving projects.
