Hamoaze House, started life as Admiralty House, home and Headquarters of the Poart Admiral, Flag Officer, Plymouth. It was subsiquently transferred from the Royal Navy, to the Royal Marines, again serving as a headquarters. Since being released by the Ministry of Defence, the building has been used as a Rehabilitation Centre.
This old building has some interesting internal feature. Quite a splendid old Ballroom, to the rear of the ground floor, and an interesting staircase, that circles up from the main entrance lobby. Some doors leading to rooms off the stairs, are curved to match the curve of the stairwell.
Many tales exist as to the activity of ghosts. One quite well known story, was of the sound of footsteps, walking along the first floor in the middle of the night. No one of couse was ever seen. Checks of the first floor were carried out, but no one was ever found. Lights too, used to go on and off, in various rooms, for no apparent reason. Electrical checks were made, but no faults found.
Was it an old occupant, still carrying out his or her duties? Who knows?
