Torquay, probably one of the best known resorts in the country, let alone Devon, has an atmosphere of being, “lay back”, although there is lots to do and see here. A walk along the seafront, especially on an evening, past all the illuminations, is superb. or why not pass through the Rock Walk, or even take in a show in the Palace Theatre. The choice is yours. Like most seaside resorts, night life is vibrant and enjoyable.

The town, grows away uphill from the harbour, with, it seems, various streets winding there way to numerous hotels and guest houses. There are one or two beaches scattered around at the bottom of the cliffs, which are easily accessible. Most sporting facilities are well catered for also.

Kents Cavern, a popular attraction, is a limestone cave which is supposed to be haunted. it’s well worth a visit with its illuminated rock formations. Torre Abbey, is also noted for ghostly goings on, and may be interesting to explore.

What you may ask has a panda got to do with Torquay, well nothing at all, but for the simple reason; that while looking through a shop window in the town, Ping was looking back at me hungrily.

Ping the Panda

Lunch, lunch, followed by lunch
Tis bamboo, it’s just lovely to munch
Warm and cuddly, people love me
I am so cute, all would agree
Avoiding trouble, and I’m quite wise
So why do I have, two lovely black eyes
