MD Ten Tors – Dartmoor

In the spring of each year, just as the moor awakens from its winter’s sleep, teams of young people, set out from Oakhampton Army Camp, in the annual Ten Tors Trek.

The trek, which is held over a weekend, is of varying lengths, is designed to develop character building and teamwork, which may assist young people in the future. Teams are drawn from schools, colleges, Scouts and other organisations.

Heading out across the moor, the teams explore the beauty of Dartmoor. Climbing up rocky Tors, walking through sheltered valleys, and crossing rivers. The weather plays an important role. Rain and mist, tests map reading skills to the full. To hot, will bring other caallenges. Camping out for one night, there is an element of competition to finish in a good time. To complete the course, however, is success in itself.

Conditions for 2012, look excellent. Clear dry and sunny. The ground, however, maybe marshy after a perid of heavy rain.+
