MC Jamaica Inn – Bodmin Moor

Jamaica Inn, made famous by the Daphne du Maurier noval of the same name, lies alongside the A30, on Bodmin Moor.

In my mind, I had always imagined the Inn to be vert small, with low beamed ceilings,
, and a log fire burning in the grate. To my surprise, when finally paying a visit late in 2010, the Inn is quite large. It still, however, has a good interesting atmosphere. It’s size too, must make it easier to cater for the many thousands of visitors, that nust call in every year.

Of course the name of Jamaica, tends to give rise the image of 18th century pirates, roaming the beautiful Caribbean Sea, and those who smuggled a cask of Rum or two, into Cornwall, while trying to avoid Revenue men, armed with muskets. For this reason alone. The Inn is worth a visit.

The island of Jamaica however, nestling in the ray’s of the warm Sun, really could be, The Island of Dreams.

The Island of Dreams

To walk among palms, leave a mind adrift
As silver sands, kiss the ocean blue
Each grain of sand, feels its windy shift
Blows it and bites, its dunes anew

Capture this light, on this golden yield
Each wave bringing hope and dreams
Each footstep marks such depth of field
Visions of love, to find it seems

For it is not like a first desire
To the highest hill, or deepest mead
In the love of peace, may hearts retire
Shelters from all that require such need

Although this place, may not exist in life
A tender pulse may reveal its frame
The winds of change, sweep past its palms
To pure delight, in a sea of shame.
