MD Plymouth – City Centre

What is there mystic about Plymouth City Centre? Not a great deal to be fair, but it is worth a mention, due to it being the centre of the largest city in Devon.

In common with town centres throughout Britain, it has the normal good selection of shops. These are sited mainly in Cornwall Streey, New George Street, Armada Way, and Mayflower Street. Drake Circus Shopping Mall, opened in the last few years, provides under cover shopping at the East End.

From the centre of town, there is easy access to Plymouth Hoe, via Armada Way, and the ferry port at Millbay is also within easy reach.

The centre appears to be in a constant period of change. It is a pity, with all the efforts being made by local Authority, the centre has a negative feel to it.

Plymouth, has however, a great deal of history to fall back on, and many initiatives are being taken to make it an attractive place to visit. The Theatre Royal, The Pavillions and even the large revolving wheel on the Hoe, are all assets .

There is one great positive point, “The Plymothian”.

Crust the Plymuff Pasty

‘Ello me boys, let me tell ‘ee a tale
A memory of which, will surely prevail.
Me name is Crust, not bad for me
Me life is short, you must agree.

When I arrived, all tidy and neat
Made of spuds, turnip, onion and meat.
Me jacket was folded, crimped at the edge
Nicely wrapped up, to hide me veg.

You may see me all over this city of mine
In shops and café’s, it suits me just fine.
Me ‘ead in a beg, while walking ‘round town
Life ‘aint too good being upside down.

I loves me football, at the theatre of greens
With more of me mates, all ‘elps it seems.
A chant of “Green Army” holds me up high
Careful me mate, you’ll get crust in the eye!

“I likes me pint, real ale if you please
Relax, chill out, just take things at ease.
Pasty and a pint, now there’s a good night
Hours of the wind, but tomorrow be right.

They tell ‘ee I’ll make ‘ee fat,
And now they going to add more VAT!
No problem see, we’ll take the flack
Us Plymuff boys will bite ‘em back!
