EXMOUTH East Devon.
This quiet Victorian / Edwardian seaside town still retains the charm of a bygone age. The large sandy beach is excellent, along with its level promenade, and evening walk by the sea, is easy to do. The little beach huts, huddled together like houses on a Monopoly board, must have the best sea views on the board. Do not go, and don’t pass GO to collect your £200. Stay a while to soak up its atmosphere.
For a much more lively stay, a visit to nearby Sandy Bay, or now better known as Devon Cliffs Holiday Park, could be the answer. There is the sandy beach, but also more in the line of entertainments, that may suit families.
The character in the open may turn up here by the shore.
The Shifty Sandy
Hey you there, do you want a deal
The offers I’ve got, just ‘aint real
I’ll tip you the wink, when the coast is clear
It ‘aint too cheap, and it ‘aint too dear
Know what I mean, if you get my drift
All kinds of rocks, I can shift
Come here close, don’t say a word
If I get caught, I’ll do bird
When the tide goes out, I’ll be washed away
Don’t worry though, I come back next day
I’ll give you a price, but don’t let on
It lasts for a day, and then it’s gone
I’ll deliver by the light of the moon
No one will know, it’s hid in a dune
If you say yes, remember its sand
Grains on this beach, best in the land.
