Female fertility hormones and R.P.
Many thanks to all those who responded to my post suggesting that fertility hormones [including oestrogen, progesterone, the follicle stimulating hormone and the luteinising hormone] protect against the development of R.P. in females who carry the R.P. genetic defects. That this must be the case is borne-out by the fact that males develop R.P. at the age of around 11 years 3 months, at puberty when the male fertility hormones kick-in, but females do not, until the age of around 47 years 3 months, when the female fertility hormones cease; at the onset of menopause). The inference, therefore, is that HRT may be used in females to prevent the onset of R.P., and may prevent the development of R.P. in males, from the age of 12.
The above hypothesis could be tested, statistically, using data from medical records:
The development of R.P. in females (carrying the RP genes) aged over 48 who have not taken HRT could be compared to that of females in the same group who have taken HRT.
A cautionary note: I did mention, in my earlier post, that some food and drink, like soya bean and beer, contain natural Oestrogen and that this might be used as a natural supplement in place of HRT, however, I should mention that such foods and drink often contain natural yeast which, as Maurice Cotterell’s Paper on leaky-gut points-out [www.MauriceCotterell.com Leaky-gut—the cause of allergies, asthma and auto-immune disease] could cause leaky-gut and the worsening of R.P., so only oestrogen rich foods that do not contain yeast should be considered.
Disclaimer:
The information on Leaky-gut was found to be effective for one individual but may not be effective for others. Individuals with physical ill-health should contact a qualified Medical Physician.
