ASTROLOGY CORNER

Welcome to the September/October edition of Astrologer’s Corner.

The Autumn Equinoctial sky has Mars squaring the Sun, Jupiter and Chiron, and Saturn squaring Neptune near the South Node of the Moon which is opposed by Mercury.

Chart courtesy of Solar Fire V.8
Astrologers who were breathing a sigh of relief that malefic Mars was leaving its own sign of Scorpio may be less comfortable contemplating the aspects of Mars & Saturn – the two traditional ‘baddies’ – in idealistic Sagittarius. Idealism is all very well if the ideals are healthy, but sadly there is still plenty of scope for charismatic leaders with big ideas to inspire their followers with notions that can only lead to confusion, chaos or worse.
According to the New Scientist, there’s also something unusual going on in the far reaches of the solar system beyond Neptune. Researchers in Hawaii have spotted a trans-Neptunian object they’re nicknaming Niku (inspired by the Chinese word for "rebellious"). New Scientist reports that Niku is 160,000 times fainter than Neptune, and could be less than 130 miles across.

The existence of another trans-Neptunian object isn’t surprising—there are more than 1200 of them—but the way that Niku moves is. In their paper posted on arXiv, scientists describe an object that is moving upward in its orbit. Its orbital plane is tilted 110° compared to the rest of the solar system. And it orbits the Sun backwards, in the opposite direction as Earth and the rest of the planets we know and love.

Because of the way that planetary systems form, all objects within a solar system should spin the same way. Niku is like a Roulette ball that started moving in the opposite direction of the wheel’s spin. At some point, something would have had to knock it off course in order to facilitate that kind of direction change. What that might have been, scientists still aren’t sure, adding to Niku’s enigma status. The only thing we know for sure so far is that a lot of astronomers are trying to solve the mystery….

THERAPIST PROFILE

This month we introduce you to a new service at the Centre – Marriage Care South West Relationship Counselling.

Marriage Care is a Charity that was founded in 1946 to offer “marriage guidance” to families where a parent had returned from war and things were not going too well in the family, often due to PTSD, increasing women’s independence, and the deprivation and upset that could be expected after many years of warfare. MC has gone from strength to strength and now has over 50 Centres nationally and over 100 counselling venues.

In Plymouth counselling support is offered at the Centre for any type of relationship difficulty, including married and non-married couples, same sex couples, and also other relationships such as that with food or with oneself. Pauline Skinner and Marie Hull are the two counsellors who offer this service – they are both fully qualified to diploma level (Marie is also a qualified Supervisor) and have many years’ experience of supporting relationships. Models such as Egan, Emotionally Focussed Therapy, Person-centred Therapy and Transactional Analysis are used as appropriate. They do not offer child therapy so clients must be aged 16 or over.

Pauline and Marie both work at the Centre as volunteers for Marriage Care and do not get paid, however clients are invited to make an affordable donation for each session as obviously there are costs such as venue, insurance and CPD involved. It is to be stressed that this donation is affordable and no-one will be turned away due to lack of funds. Please see our website at http://www.marriagecare.org.uk for further information about the organization. Counselling appointments to see Pauline or Marie can be made by phoning our National Appointments Service on freephone 0800 3893801.
