Back in times gone by, there was an old guy called Alfred, who sold ice creams on Porth beach. When the tide went out, Alfred used to pedal his tricycle with his ice cream cold box on the front, to the low tide mark. Once there, he used to stop, undo his cycle clip from his trousers, and took out a hand bell to announce his arrival.
His business did well, with many people who had ventured out to meet the sea, stopping to buy one of his superb Cornish ice creams. Always keeping an eye on the tide, he knew when it was time to make his way inshore when tohe tide turned.
One day however, the sea conditions were a bit rough, but with trade being a little down that week, Alfred decided to take a chance. Then, from out of nowhere, a huge wave crashed upon the shore, ehind Alfred's tricycle. He jumed on,and started to pedal towards the shore at a frantic rate. Unfortunatedly, and as quick as a flash, the wave engulfed both Alfred and his tricycle, both of which were never seen again.
It is said, even to this day, that on a still night, the sound of Alfrd's hand bell, can be still heard, when the sea is rough.
