When autumn turns its head to embrace the winter, it seems the colours and vibrations of Devon change, to provide a beauty even in the bleakest cold days. Gone are the sweet aromas of summer, to be replaced by the gales, rain and snow, of the winter season. Rugged Dartmoor, prepares itself for the cold, looking like all is asleep beneath its overcoat of charm.
Looking out to sea, you may think that; yes, it’s good to live in such a lovely place, but would it not also be nice to share the sun of some far off tropical island. Indeed, there are places where people may take vacations, or even live or work there, but then, even in such paradise, people may think of their homeland, and miss its calling.
For those far away from friends and family, paradise could well be the shores of Devon, or the place which touches the heart, calling us home once more.
Madeleine
Far, far away from this Devon shore
A young heart beats,A thousand miles or more
A passage by sea, to a land of sun
Beneath the palms, she may run
Meica a friend, or maybe not so
In a place, where many do not go
The gentle blue, of the Caribbean sea
Laps between the toes, in light you see
To live a life, in this island home
A place that once, pirates did roam
Imaginary sails in Kingston Bay
May bring this heart, home this way
Far, far away from this Devon shore
May the light guide those, to a foreign door
Paradise lost, paradise found
Madeleine’s dream, is homeward bound.
