As you arrive at Bigbury on Sea, Burgh Island looks across at yo, peering at times through the mist. At low tide the island, can be reached by walking along the sandy beach. Ahead of you stands the Pilchard Inn, which it is said, dates back to the 14th century. Entering the bar, with sand covering the stone floor, it is easy to see why the Inn has a touch of mystery.
Tom Crocker, it is believed, was a local smuggler in these parts, afew centuries ago. It is said that Tom still visits the Inn to this day. His face, appears above the inside of the entrance door. It is well worth just calling in for a drink to try and catch sight of him.

This orb was captured by Plymouth photographer, Rob H. It was taken at 2pm, above the door in the public bar of the Pilchard Inn, leading to the outside steps. A face can be made out when enlarges

It is interesting, that the Pilchard Inn, has been mentioned by three different people today. One, Dave, informed that he had worked at the Inn for four years. To his knowledge, there are four ghosts, who are known to haunt the Inn. Who are they? Maybe time will reveal.
