Amber Lane
I am the lane to the bridge you see,
The path of life so follow me.
In the sun I shade my eyes,
Pass through trees forever wise.
The love of light come hold my hand,
Guide me through this wooden land.
Silver to gold and violet too,
The light of love in hearts are true.
Nature’s silence tries to hide,
This way and that like the turning tide.
Walk then through life’s eternal pain,
To find love in the heart of amber lane.

Re: Amber Lane
Amber Lane explained.
Amber Lane, is a name given to Plymbridge Road, This road runs between Plympton, Plymouth, to Glenholt in the north of the city. The road, twists and turns down a steep sided valley through Plymbridge which is an ancient crossing over the river Plym before ascending up the other side of the valley. The whole length of the road is within the Plymouth City boundary.
The lane represents the jurney of life, with all it’s twists and turns. On the journey, we are guided by wise ones, “the trees”. Our eyes are shielded from the Sun, “heaven”, until we are worthy of it. The bridge, is the crossing from this world to the next. To make the crossing, and to find the pure love of heaven, we need to work out the why’s and wherefores of life and the challenges it brings, hopefully finding love on the way.
I hope this helps in the thinking behind the poem.
