Unity News! Nov/Dec 2015

Post by PNH&HC » Fri Oct 30, 2015 12:23 pm

UNITY NEWS

A warm welcome to the winter edition of Unity News.

It’s been a busy few months with several new therapists joining the Unity ‘family’, new equipment donated by the Healers – not only a special massage chair but a fantastic new couch as well, we are being spoilt!

We also have some new faces on the Management Committee – so lots of exciting times ahead for 2016.

We were fortunate to have a reporter and photographer from the Evening Herald attend a Natural Healing service on a Monday afternoon to feature the Centre in the local paper celebrating our 35 years of healing and charity work. We were really pleased to be able to spread the word of Unity House in this way, I hope you saw the article and photos! If not, visit the Plymouth Herald website and search ‘healing centre’ as the article should still be available online.

Well, as the end of a busy but good year draws to a close, I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy festive season and best wishes for a healthy, happy and peaceful 2016.

Blessings
Robert Parkins,
Chairman

THERAPIST PROFILE

Nicholas Millington Shiatsu, Reflexology Practitioner, Rainbow Tai Chi Teacher
I have just returned home from a live radio show interview on South Brent Community Radio, my nerves have calmed down now, to talk about my involvement in Rainbow Tai Chi (I have just qualified as a teacher). Along with Christine Chin, my teacher Master Choy's wife, we talked about Tai Chi and I played two songs from my new CD ‘Tears of Love and Understanding’. These are songs of healing inspired by my experiences of tai chi chi kung. Such a joy to feel that the healing energy I work with as a therapist is moving through my music! It feels like my life is taking new turns all the time and incorporating all the skills I have acquired along the way!

From my first experience of healing with Dr Alec Forbes, to learning reflexology and then shiatsu, learning counselling to now be privileged to be learning Tai Chi and Chi healing and the wonders of chi from a true Master, I see that my life is a journey back to me and the essence of me! This journey is showing me that we are all energy beings of immense potential and so I see my role as a therapist is to help whoever comes to me to realize this too!

If you feel inspired to connect to the energy being in you, please feel free to contact me for shiatsu, reflexology, or one to one Rainbow Tai Chi sessions or classes on 01364 73180 / 07799 881190 or email nic@healingartsdevon.co.uk http://www.healingartsdevon.co.uk

SPIRITUAL HEALERS

We would like to say a very heartfelt ‘Thank You’ to the Unity Healers and their kind generosity in providing us with the funds to purchase some new equipment.

A very welcome addition is this brilliant massage chair. It is light-weight so can easily be moved to any of the therapy rooms. It also means that clients who either do not like to or cannot lie down can still benefit from therapies such as massage or Shiastu treatments. It has already been put to good use!

Their generosity has also meant we have been able to replace the couch in room 3. This is a wider couch so giving more security and space to clients. It is easier to move the couch around and it has a hydraulic system allowing easy ajustment to the height– a big bonus for both clients who struggle to get on a higher couch but also allows practitioners to then adjust the height for their comfort.

So once again a very BIG THANK YOU! Both items have been very gratefully received by the therapists and with the chair this is an additional service we can offer to people in need.

ASTROLOGY CORNER

Welcome to the Nov/Dec 2015 edition of Astrologer’s Corner.
In terms of planetary transits this is a slightly uneasy period. Saturn is at right-angles to Neptune in the sky – meaning that the principle of order and self-control (Saturn) is at odds with the impressionable and idealistic energies of Neptune. This can sometimes work well e.g. creative impulses can be given practical shape – but all too often common sense is undermined by confusion, or creativity is inhibited. People most likely to feel this tension are Sagittarians born between 27th November and 1st December – and Pisceans born around 26th February. And of course it should not be forgotten that the square of Uranus to Pluto is still in force – one only has to look around the world to be reminded of the drastic upheavals associated with the long-running Uranus-Pluto cycle.

‘On a more cheerful note, most people still celebrate Christmas but try to compress it into one or two days instead of taking the 12 days needed for the rest and recuperation required at this time of year. The 12 days of Yuletide date from Christmas Day to 12th Night (5th January). The excessive present giving of the modern Christmas is a recent phenomenon introduced by the Victorians. In earlier days the emphasis was on the shortening of the days up to the Solstice (22nd December) and there was considerable anxiety over whether the wheel of the year would turn and the days would ever begin to lengthen again.

The old Mummers play 'St George & the Dragon' speaks to this anxiety: St George, King of the Waxing Year kills the Turkish Knight ('Night'), King of the Waning Year. Until the last World War, the Solstice was regarded as New Year's Day in Scandinavia. In Britain New Year's Eve celebrates the beginning of the New Year with resolutions and first footing, followed by 12th Night (5th January), the traditional night for indoor revelry which marks the end of Yuletide.’ (Reproduced with thanks from an abridged version of An Introduction to the Festivals by Beth Shaw)
