Angel Coombe Bay - South Devon - The Sun Bird

Angel Coombe Bay – South Devon.

The old steam engine sighed with relief, as the train reaching its destination, came to a distinct halt at the station. Its carriages crammed with happy people looking forward to this moment, expectantly gathered their belongings to begin a day at the seaside. As the carriage doors opened right away, a flurry of activity could be heard throughout the train, as the entire population of passengers hurried to depart, it seemed as though everyone wanted to dis-embark the train at the same time, much was the excitement. The hurried excitement, quietly drifted away, as they finally left the station. They all appeared to head for the beach.

Angel Coombe Bay, basked in the morning sun, as the visitors claimed their territory on the beach, marking its boundary with a windbreak or two. Keen swimmers headed off towards the sea, complete with wet suits and rubber rings. Children happily started digging the sand to find who could build the biggest sand castle in a record time.

In the park behind the sand, the boating lake was doing brisk business. Potential sailors clambering aboard their own ship, although in reality; it was only a 3 metre rowing boat. “Let’s play pirates” came the cry from the middle of the lake. As rowing commenced at a frantic speed, the campaign began. Boats rocked from side to side, as crews tried to board the adjacent boat, much to the alarm of the guy in charge of the lake. How many crafts would survive the day?

Ice cream vendors were doing great business. “Two 99’s with clotted cream please” The sound of everyone having a great day rang throughout the coombe. It was hot and no doubt, more fizzy pop, water, and ice blocks, must have been consumed in this one day than ever before. As the beautiful scene unfolded it was captured on many a digital camera, to show the folks back home.

Morning passed into afternoon and afternoon into evening. With the sun gradually sinking below the western sky, it was time to make tracks for home. There were, of course, some lucky people, who experienced the thrill of the day, in a long succession of endless days, each day followed by another, and another, until the end of time. They had booked into guest houses and hotels, for the night. The next day would see it all happen again
-.
As the old steam train left the station all became quiet in Angel Coombe Bay, once again, quiet as can be, peace at last. The sea was calm once more, just a gentle wave reaching the beach. Today and for many generations to come, the beauty of Devon will be here for all to see and enjoy.

The Sun Bird

My heart, is of the Sun
Dear little one, dear little one
I come in peace, to this plane
As I have done, again and again

My plume, is of love, in each I dwell
Upon each hill, and in every dell
I sing my song, each golden fayre
You may hear each note, from here to there

I carry the light, in Comet’s ride
The dark of space, cannot hide
Don’t hide your eyes, dear little one
The truth of love, is why I come

Listen, dear little one, dear little one
Your heart, it beats, till life is done
Tread your way, in peace and light
Each step with love, in radiance bright

I will protect, dear little one, dear little one
In time not real, till time is done
My wings will guide, dear little one, dear little one
Each path you take, each challenge won

Soon will be, what will be
As I look, from that splendid tree
In love, with love, I sing with charms
Until you are safe, in your mother’s arms.
